Havana.- The world's best known cigar-producing country, will ask smokers to step outside before lighting up.
Beginning on February 7, smoking, cigarrettes or the famous habano cigars, will be prohibited in public transport, offices, shops, theatres, sport facilities and areas close to schools.
Cigarette machines will be taken down.
This law comes despite its reputation as a producer of fine cigars, and the cigar exports, that generates $200 million annually.
Fidel Castro gave up the cigar in 1986.
Two years ago, he hinted at his own growing distaste for smoking when he offered advice to his people on the best means of disposing of a box of cigars.
"The best thing to do is give them to your enemy," he said.
